Whitley: what to know before moving day
The A19, Selby Road, runs past the village, with the Balne Moor crossroads on it, and the George and Dragon is the pub. Around them are the closes that make up most of Whitley: Olive Tree Close, Chantry Gardens, Larth Close, Cathcart Close, College Farm Close, Woodview Close, Copper Beech Drive and Lime Tree Drive, with Silver Street, Gravelhill Lane and Whitley Thorpe Lane as the older lanes. Daffodil Field is the park and play area.
Whitley has a primary school and the Chapel of All Saints, built between 1858 and 1861. A Knights Templar manor, Whitley Preceptory, is believed to have stood south-west of the village in the 13th century. With the population almost doubling between 2001 and 2011, check that your satnav knows the newest closes.
How the van gets to Whitley
The route is short on lanes: M62 east from Bradford to junction 34, then south on the A19, and Whitley is just south of the junction. Coming back, the same junction puts the van straight onto the motorway.
