Great Heck: what to know before moving day
Main Street is the village street, with Heck and Pollington Lane and Long Lane meeting it, with Green Lane, Heck Lane, Intake Lane and Mill Balk on the edges. St John the Baptist's church is here, and so are Great Heck Brewery and a nursery. The Aire and Calder Navigation passes the village, with the South Yorkshire Boat Club's marina on it. The parish also contains Little Heck.
The village is best known for the rail crash of 28 February 2001, when a Land Rover left the M62 and ran onto the East Coast Main Line just before a bridge; ten people died. There is a memorial to the crash nearby. If your house sits back from the lane, let us know how far the van can get to the door.
How the van gets to Great Heck
Lanes are the only way in. Heck Lane leads to Balne Moor Road and on to the A19 Selby Road, which joins the M62 for Bradford. From the north, Church Lane links Hensall to Great Heck, a mile away.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 45 to 60 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
