Harden: what to know before moving day
For almost forty years Harden's biggest employer was Ellison Circlips, whose factory filled the block between Long Lane, Keighley Road, Effingham Road and the fields below Harden Moor. The firm moved to Glusburn in 1997 and the factory was knocked down to make way for housing. Millbeck Drive, Highfell Grove and Anthony Lane are among the residential roads off Keighley Road today. Down by Harden Beck, one of the old mills still works as a printing works.
The older buildings are listed stone. Harden Hall dates from the early to mid 17th century and was extended in 1691, 2 and 3 Crowther Fold are cottages of 1700 and 1776, and the 1920 war memorial, a cross on a Tuscan column, stands near a road junction in the centre. Long Lane has the primary school, open since 1877, St Saviour's Church, the post office, a pharmacy and a butcher. The St Ives Estate has woodland, a playpark, moorland paths and an 18-hole golf course.
How the van gets to Harden
From Bingley, Harden Road (the B6429) crosses the river and runs into the village, where it becomes Long Lane. Keighley Road heads north from Long Lane past the old factory site towards the moor, and Wilsden Road runs south to Wilsden, past the Malt Shovel where the two villages meet. The 616 bus comes the other way, from Bradford through Wilsden into Harden and on to Bingley.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 20 to 30 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
