Ferrybridge: what to know before moving day
The old Great North Road, now the B6136, runs through the village, named High Street, The Square, Fishergate and Doncaster Road on the map, and the A162 Ferrybridge By-Pass is alongside. The Ferry Bridge itself, designed by John Carr and built in 1804, is Grade I listed, and the old toll house of about 1804 still stands. The Golden Lion by Ferrybridge lock and the Magnet Inn are the two pubs, and the medical centre and community centre are in the village.
Housing includes the Vale streets, Vale Crescent, Vale Avenue and Vale Head Grove, and roads such as Pinders Garth, Tenters Close, Pottery Lane and Station Road. Ferrybridge's power stations dominated the skyline until they were demolished; the last cooling towers came down on 17 March 2022. The Vale Academy and Willow Green Academy are the primary schools.
How the van gets to Ferrybridge
From Bradford the van takes the M606 and runs east along the M62 to the Ferrybridge end, close to where the M62 meets the A1(M). The A645, Pontefract Road, links the village with Pontefract, and the B6136 through the village is the old Great North Road, with the A162 bypass beside it.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 35 to 50 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
