Moving in Cold Hiendley: what to know first
A move here is about the lanes rather than a village street. Ryhill Pits Lane and Cold Hiendley Common Lane are the only roads, and both are fairly level. Back Lane, where the buildings stand, is a bridleway, not a road. Before booking, check whether a vehicle can drive up it to your door or whether the van should wait on Ryhill Pits Lane, and pace out that walk. There is also a small free roadside parking spot on Cold Hiendley Common Lane, west of the hamlet near the reservoir.
Cold Hiendley: the local picture
Cold Hiendley Reservoir was dug for the Barnsley Canal: the land was bought in 1840, the reservoir was built in 1854 below Wintersett Reservoir and above the canal, and it was enlarged to 55 acres in 1874. The canal builders had already cut a long channel through rock here in the 1790s. The canal was abandoned in 1953, and its line is now derelict.
There is very little housing. The hamlet has a single postcode, WF4 2DU, and the next nearest, WF4 2DT, is in Ryhill parish about 800 metres away. A few buildings stand off Back Lane, a bridleway, with Notton Bridge Plantation and Bramlocks wood nearby and a Trans Pennine Trail signpost by Navvy Lane to the south. Give the house name with the postcode, and say whether the van can reach the door or must stop on the lane.
How the van gets to Cold Hiendley
Ryhill Pits Lane runs from Station Road in Ryhill west to Cold Hiendley Common Lane. That lane goes north to Haw Park Lane, for Wintersett and the B6132 Chevet Lane, and south to Navvy Lane and Church Lane, which meets the B6428. From Bradford the van comes via Wakefield and joins these lanes from the Ryhill or Wintersett side.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 40 to 55 minutes. That is an estimate, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Frequently asked questions: man with a van in Cold Hiendley
Cold Hiendley or South Hiendley: which one am I booking?
They are separate places. Cold Hiendley is the hamlet by the reservoir in Havercroft with Cold Hiendley parish, postcode WF4. South Hiendley is a village and parish of its own to the south-east, with an S72 Barnsley postcode, so the postcode tells us which one.
Can the van drive along Back Lane?
Back Lane is a bridleway, so it depends on the right of access to your property. Tell us what vehicles normally use it. If the van has to stay on Ryhill Pits Lane, say how far the carry is, so it is part of the fixed price agreed before setting off.
