Churwell: what to know before moving day
The village is built on Churwell Hill, which is the A643: about three-quarters of the way up, the road's name changes from Elland Road to Victoria Road. The pubs are known locally as top, middle and bottom oyle, and the Golden Fleece site is now a Tesco Express. Just off Elland Road is the Old Poor House of 1865, Grade II listed, and the Stanhope Memorial Hall opposite is the community centre.
Housing comes in layers. The 1960s brought private and council estates to the north, between School Street and the old Leeds boundary, and houses now stand where the stone primary school was on School Street. Since 2001, Churwell New Village has added more than 350 homes, on Mozart Way, Vienna Court and Renaissance Drive among others, on land that was once a pit, brickworks and reclamation yard. It was planned on about half a car per household.
How the van gets to Churwell
Elland Road and Victoria Road carry the A643 up the hill, and Old Road, Little Lane and School Street leave it for the side streets and the New Village. From Bradford, the A650 reaches the Gildersome roundabout, where the A62 begins its run past Churwell's north-west side as Gelderd Road, while the A643 climbs through the village itself.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 25 to 35 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Both, in a sense. It is part of the Leeds district and uses the 0113 phone code, but for local government it sits under Morley Town Council, and the census counts it as part of Morley.
Which station serves Churwell New Village?
Cottingley station, on the Huddersfield Line, is very near the New Village. A new White Rose station is being built further south, and Cottingley is due to close once it opens.
