Moving in Chequerfield: what to know first
Chequerfield is mostly council-built houses on a planned layout, with The Circle at its heart and Broadway, East Drive, West Drive and King's Crescent leading off it. The Circle has the shops, the pub and a care facility in the middle, so expect parked cars and delivery vans there in the day; for a house on The Circle, the van may do better in the side street nearest your door.
Broadway and Cromwell Crescent are one-way in parts, so say which end you live at. De Lacy Primary and the community nursery on Chequerfield Lane, and High Well School on Rookhill Road, bring drop-off traffic, so a mid-morning slot is quieter. Orchard Mews is a private road; check with the residents where the van may stand on the day of the move.
Chequerfield: the local picture
The Circle is the estate's centre, with the Chequerfield pub, a pharmacy, Horners bakery, the Masala Room, St Giles' food share and St Mary's Community Centre, which replaced the demolished St Mary's Church. The Church of the Holy Family on Chequerfield Road, the Catholic church, is Grade II listed. The former Grove Lea pub is now a Tesco Express on Monument Lane.
Mountment Mews and Halberg House on Viking Road are run by WDH, Wakefield District Housing, which also runs a Live at Home scheme from Viking Road. Pease Park, the Rookhill Road allotments, De Lacy Primary School and High Well School are around the edges of the estate, and Pontefract Sport and Social Club, once the Labour Club, is on Chequers Close.
How the van gets to Chequerfield
The van comes off the M62 at junction 32 and crosses Pontefract on the A639 to Mill Hill Road, then takes Carleton Road, Swanhill Lane, Churchbalk Lane and Monument Lane to reach West Drive and The Circle, with roughly 40 to 50 minutes estimated for the whole drive from Bradford.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 40 to 50 minutes. That is an estimate, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
