Walkways, shop stairs and the one-way loop
The Horsefair flats are eleven blocks between Horsefair and Southgate, mostly deck access, with George Wright House eight storeys high and Luke Williams House in the middle. A move out of one means walking each piece along the open deck, down to ground level and out to Horsefair or Southgate. Ask WDH, which owns the blocks, whether the lift is in service on your day, and say which block and floor you are on.
Over the shops, a flat usually has one narrow stair from a street door, and the street outside is often one way or pedestrian. Horsefair, Ropergate and Finkle Street are one way, and Market Place, Salter Row and Woolmarket take vehicles only with a permit. Council bays on Ropergate, Gillygate, Valley Road and Sessions House Yard are where the van can wait. Beds come apart at the top of the stair, which is often what lets a double frame round the landing.
Before you move out of a Pontefract flat
- Give the block name or the street the door opens onto; on the one-way loop, that decides the side the van parks
- Check with WDH or your managing agent whether moves must be booked or the lift reserved
- Measure the narrowest turn of the stair against the sofa and the wardrobe, not just the front door
- Flats on Market Place are best moved on a Monday, Tuesday or Thursday, when the outdoor stalls are not trading
- A studio or one-bedroom flat is usually one trip, packed or not; send photos to confirm

Floors, walkways, whether the lift works and the distance from the council bay to the door set the time, and that becomes one fixed figure agreed before the day. See how we quote for the full breakdown.
Flat & Apartment Removals in Pontefract: your questions
Is moving out of the Horsefair flats a long job?
It takes longer than a house of the same size because of the carry. Furniture goes along the deck, down the stairs or lift and out to the road. A one-bedroom flat is still usually a morning, and photos help pin the time down.
Where does the van park for a flat on Ropergate?
In a council bay on Ropergate itself if one is free, or on Valley Road or Gillygate nearby. Some council parking gives up to two hours free with a ticket from the machine; check the board for the current rules.
Can a double bed get round a narrow shop stair?
Often, once it is in pieces. The frame is taken apart in the bedroom and carried down in sections, and the mattress goes on its side. Measure the tightest turn and send the figure.
