Chapel Haddlesey: what to know before moving day
St John the Baptist's Church was built in 1836 on the site of a religious house from the 14th century. It began as a chapel of ease in Birkin parish and became a parish of its own in 1873 with Temple Hirst and Hirst Courtney. The Jug Inn is the pub, and the church has a community hall.
The river matters here. Haddlesey Old Lock was built in 1702, became redundant when the Selby Canal opened in 1778, and in 2016 was turned into a small hydro power station; the bottom of the lock is the normal tidal limit of the Aire. Millfield Road, Fox Lane, Manor Farm Court and Ings Lane are the roads away from the A19.
