Beckett Park: what to know before moving day
The park runs from Queenswood Drive on the west to Batcliffe Mount on the east, and from St Chad's Drive in the north to Langdale Terrace in the south, with a school, a play park, a skate park, tennis courts and woodland trails. Around it are streets such as Foxcroft Road, Batcliffe Drive and St Anne's Road, and local shops, a post office and a takeaway. Many students live in the surrounding streets in term time, so for a shared house give the room and floor as well as the address.
The land once belonged to Kirkstall Abbey. William Beckett bought the New Grange estate in 1832 and renamed the house Kirkstall Grange, and Ernest Beckett sold it to the Leeds Corporation in 1908. The hilltop went to a training college, which became Leeds Polytechnic, Leeds Metropolitan University and, from 2014, Leeds Beckett University; the slope below became the park, still leased from Wade's Charity. Most of Headingley was built up by 1900, but the ground around Beckett Park was developed later.
How the van gets to Beckett Park
From Bradford, the A647 leads to Stanningley and the B6157 carries on to Kirkstall, where Queenswood Drive runs along the western edge of the park. Coming from Headingley instead, Batcliffe Mount is the road on the eastern edge.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 25 to 35 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Beckett Park: questions before you book
Is Beckett Park the university or the houses?
Both share the name. The Leeds Beckett University campus sits on the hilltop, and Beckett Park is also the public park and the residential streets around it. If you are moving out of a university building rather than a house, give the building name, such as The Grange or the James Graham Building.
Why is there an arch in the woods at Beckett Park?
It commemorates Queen Victoria's visit to Leeds Town Hall in 1858 and echoes features of William Beckett's house. It stands in the wood near the campus and is a useful point for directions, though the van needs a street address.
