Whitwood: what to know before moving day
Whitwood Lane, Whitwood Terrace and Wood Lane, where the post office is, sit close to the Rising Sun on Whitwood Common Lane, the A655. Other housing streets include Carr Beck Drive, Stonecrop Drive, Buttercup Way, Ryegrass Gardens and Pasture Way. Castleford's rugby union club and Whitwood Golf Club are both here, and the old Don Pedro Colliery railway crossed the area.
The rest is business land. Whitwood's industrial estate, about 99 acres, is older than the neighbouring Wakefield Europort, and today Speedwell Road, Pioneer Way and Willowbridge Way are lined with units: the Royal Mail delivery office, the Haribo works, the Whitwood Enterprise and Pioneer business parks, and Diggerland. A greyhound track ran at Whitwood from 1939 to 2001. For a house move, give the street and the postcode, because Whitwood Lane has business premises as well as homes on it.
How the van gets to Whitwood
From M62 junction 31 the A655, called Whitwood Common Lane and Willowbridge Lane here, runs through Whitwood towards Castleford. Pioneer Way and Speedwell Road lead to the business parks. For a home, give directions from the Rising Sun on the main road rather than from a business park entrance.
