Westwood Park: what to know before moving day
Birds give their names to much of the estate. Kingfisher Court, Nuthatch Mews, Ouzel Drive, Peregrine Way and Redwing Drive are a handful of them, set out as closes and short drives off Sheila Henry Drive and The Birdwalk, and a second set that includes Fewston Avenue, Winscar Avenue and Widdop Close is close by. So many look-alike names within a few hundred metres is a good reason to give the driver the exact street, the postcode and the through road you turn off.
The older stone is along the main road. Highgate Road has Grade II listed sandstone cottages from the late 18th century to about 1840, and the main block of Highgate Mills, three storeys of early to mid 19th-century sandstone, is listed too. Pollit Farmhouse and its barn, 18th-century gritstone, are nearer the estate itself. If you are leaving one of the Highgate Road cottages, bear in mind that the A647 is the road outside, and mention it when you book.
For pointing the van to the right place, the Westwood Park Diagnostic and Treatment Centre, Stocks Lane Primary School and Home Farm Primary School are all mapped here, and the Hare and Hounds pub stands on the main road.
How the van gets to Westwood Park
From Bradford, follow the A647 up through Great Horton as Great Horton Road. At the Cooper Lane junction it becomes Highgate Road, which is the stretch Westwood Park sits beside, and Stocks Lane leaves it on the Queensbury side. Cooper Lane, the B6147, runs south from that junction to Beacon Road, the B6380, so there is a second way round via the Buttershaw side. All three main roads are 30 mph here.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 15 to 25 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
