Weetwood: what to know before moving day
Weetwood Lane runs north to south through the middle, and it is older than it looks: in the Middle Ages it was the main route between Adel and Leeds. Houses began to spread here after the Otley turnpike, now the A660, opened in 1741, and particularly after 1840. The sandstone underneath was quarried here for centuries; Weetwood Quarry was still being worked by Ann Husler until 1874.
Several large old buildings now have other uses. Weetwood Hall, a Grade II* listed manor house of 1625, is a hotel and conference centre. Fox Hill is a hill, a residential area and the hall built in 1863 for the Tetley brewing family, now Moorlands School. Nearby, Weetwood Grange of 1861 has been divided into flats, and Oxley Hall is a university residence. Streets such as Foxhill Drive, Foxhill Crescent, Weetwood Mill Lane and Bardon Hall Gardens make up the housing, and the Meanwood Valley Trail runs along the eastern edge by the beck.
How the van gets to Weetwood
The A6120 Leeds Outer Ring Road forms the northern boundary and the A660 Otley Road the western one, so from Bradford the van follows the Ring Road east from Farsley and turns into Weetwood Lane, or comes down Otley Road from Lawnswood.
