Triangle: what to know before moving day
Most of Triangle dates from 19th-century industrialisation. The Triangle, a listed late 18th-century pub of three storeys and an attic, stands by the main road, and a listed early 19th-century milepost is on the east side of Rochdale Road. Thorpe Mill, a nine-bay mill of 1824, is listed, and Thorpe House near the village, built in 1804, housed Royal Engineers officers in the Second World War and was a home for elderly people from 1957 to 1994.
Triangle Post Office, the Church of England primary school and the cricket club are all in the village. Union Street, Hollin Street, Butterworth Lane and Parklands Drive hold much of the housing, and Oak Lane, Oak Hill and Sandy Dyke Lane lead off the main road. Stansfield Bridge, an 18th-century stone bridge with two arches, crosses the Ryburn close by.
How the van gets to Triangle
The A58 Rochdale Road is the main road, coming from Sowerby Bridge and carrying on to Ripponden. Oak Lane reaches it by way of Oak Hill, and Stubbing Lane leaves it for Sandy Dyke Lane and Dean Lane on the way to Mill Bank. The Rishworth branch railway once ran up this valley, and Triangle had its own station on it.
