Tong Park: what to know before moving day
Tong Park mixes industry and housing. Tong Park Dam, on Gill Beck, is marked on the map as a historic industrial pond, and the Tong Park Industrial Estate is off Otley Road today, and Baildon keeps one of its two war memorials in Tong Park, the other being on Browgate. The houses are on short residential roads such as Tong Park Street, Hollin Head, The Paddock, Hallside Close, Broadacre Way and Woodview Avenue.
This is the edge of the town in more than one sense. A roadside stone marks the old boundary between Baildon Urban District and Wharfedale Rural District, and a listed 19th-century milestone on the north-west side of Otley Road gives the distances to Otley and Bradford. Before the 1998 school changes the area had its own Tong Park First School. Hollins Hall Golf Course and Tong Cricket Club are nearby.
How the van gets to Tong Park
From Shipley the A6038 Otley Road runs up the valley through Charlestown and past the Roundwood Road junction to Tong Park, where it becomes Hollins Hill with a 40 mph limit. Esholt Lane leaves it here for Esholt, and Hollin Head links back to Langley Lane and the rest of Baildon. Lonk House Lane is a service road, so give the house name if the address is on it.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 15 to 30 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
