Moving in Shore (Todmorden): what to know first
Shore is a scatter of stone farmhouses, cottages and the chapel on the hillside above Cornholme, most of them set back from the lanes on their own drives and yards. Pudding Lane, Gall Lane and Shore Green are the public lanes; some of the private drives off them are concrete strips about 2 metres wide. Unless you know a long van fits up yours, plan on it stopping where the drive meets the lane, and say whether there is room to turn at the top.
The van comes up one of two ways. From Cornholme it climbs Pudsey Road and Shore New Road to Pudding Lane, and from the moor side it drops down from Kebs Road by Mount Lane and Gall Lane. Shaw Lane is a gravel bridleway and Blue Bell Lane a service lane over a small bridge, so for a house on either, describe the last stretch and send a photo of the gateway with your list.
Shore (Todmorden): the local picture
The Baptist church and Sunday school were enlarged in 1833 and again in 1871, and the listed building has an L-shaped plan with a pedimented front. Shore Manse stands on Shore Green. The farmhouses around the hamlet are listed too: Wittonstall End, an early 19th-century house that reuses 17th-century stonework and is now two homes, and Blue Bell Lane Farmhouse with its barn attached.
Pudding Lane is the hub of the lanes, meeting Shore New Road, Shore Green, Gall Lane, Blue Bell Lane and Shaw Lane. Every one of them is a minor lane: Blue Bell Lane is a bridleway and Shaw Lane a gravel bridleway track, so for a house on either, say whether a vehicle can get to the door. Named houses such as Teapot Cottage, Kitsonroyd and Mount Pleasant are how many addresses are written, so give the house name with the postcode.
How the van gets to Shore (Todmorden)
There are two ways up. From Burnley Road in Cornholme, Pudsey Road leads to Shore New Road and on to Pudding Lane. The route suggested from Bradford instead leaves the valley at Hebden Bridge, takes Badger Lane and the Long Causeway over to Kebs Road, then comes down Mount Lane and Gall Lane into Shore. Either way, allow roughly 50 to 65 minutes.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 50 to 65 minutes. That is an estimate, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Frequently asked questions: man with a van in Shore (Todmorden)
Why are there so few street names on Shore addresses?
Because most homes are farmhouses and cottages on lanes rather than numbered streets. Many go by a house name, and several neighbours share a postcode such as OL14 8SG. Send the house name, lane and postcode, and say which lane you drive up yourself.
Which way does the van come up to Shore?
Usually from Cornholme, by Pudsey Road and Shore New Road to Pudding Lane, about 3.2 miles from Todmorden. The other way is over the moor by Kebs Road, Mount Lane and Gall Lane, which suits a move to or from Burnley.
Will a long van fit up the private drives at Shore?
Not always. Some are narrow concrete strips about 2 metres wide, so send a photo of the drive and say how far the door is from Pudding Lane, Gall Lane or Shore Green; the carry is then part of the price agreed before setting off.
