Scholes (Cleckheaton): what to know before moving day
Scholes Lane and New Road East, both part of the B6120, meet Westfield Lane in the middle of the village, and the shops cluster there: the Co-op, a butcher, the Village Chippy, the Village Shop and The Walkers Arms. The oldest buildings are on Whitechapel Road. Numbers 414 and 414A are a barn with a timber-framed core from the late 15th or early 16th century, converted into two houses in 1989, and 406 and 408 with Barn Cottage have doorways dated 1631 and 1638. In the 18th century Scholes made cards for combing cotton or linen, and a coal mine opened later, closing early in the 20th century. From Bradford, the M606 meets the M62 at Chain Bar and Scholes lies near the motorway, so the run is mostly motorway with a short finish on B roads.
