Purston Jaglin: what to know before moving day
Purston Park is the landmark. Opened in the 1950s in the grounds of a private house and country estate, it has a lake and a children's play area, and its former bowling green became a rose garden in 2004. The house, Purston Hall of about 1824, is Grade II listed; it once served as Featherstone's town hall, was sold to developers in 2007 and is now flats, with Purston Park Court beside it.
Around the park are Wentbridge Road, Wellgarth Road, Beech Tree Road and Apple Tree Road on one side, Leatham Avenue, Leatham Crescent and Green Acres on another, and Stanley Main Avenue and Silkstone Road towards Pontefract Road. The Travellers Rest on Pontefract Road may date back to the 17th century. The Featherstone Academy and Purston Infant School are both close, so weekday mornings around Pontefract Road and Nunns Lane are worth avoiding for loading.
How the van gets to Purston Jaglin
Ackworth Road, the B6421, runs south from Featherstone past the park towards Ackworth, and Hall Street carries the same road into the town. Pontefract Road, the A645, passes close by on its way to Pontefract, and Went Lane, the B6428, is also nearby.
