Oulton: what to know before moving day
Two main roads cross in the middle of the village: the A639 (Leeds Road, Calverley Road and Methley Lane) and the A642 (Aberford Road and Wakefield Road), so a house on either needs a plan for where the van stops. Around them are streets with a pattern to their names: a group ending in -gate (Greengate, Northgate, Bryngate, Southgate) and a group named after the Lakes (Coniston Way, Derwent Avenue, Ullswater Crescent, Langdale Road). Short older streets such as Kitchener Street and Buller Street are part of the mix too.
Oulton Hall is the big house here. Rebuilt after a fire in 1850 and Grade II listed, it was an officers' hospital from 1918 and a psychiatric hospital until 1971, and is now a hotel with a spa and golf course in grounds landscaped by Humphry Repton. Oulton Parish Church, the Oulton Institute, Oulton Medical Centre, the war memorial and Rothwell Sports Centre are the other places a driver can find easily.
How the van gets to Oulton
From Bradford the van crosses Leeds on the M62 and comes into Oulton on the A639 or the A642, which meet at the village centre. Rothwell Lane, the A654, heads west towards Rothwell, and Aberford Road runs north into Woodlesford.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 30 to 40 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Where does Oulton end and Woodlesford begin?
The two used to be separate villages but have grown together. The official boundary runs through the middle of the Midland Hotel pub, along Midland Street and across to Holmsley Field Lane, which is why the old Oulton Library ended up in Woodlesford.
Did Oulton belong to Rothwell before Leeds?
Yes. Oulton was part of Rothwell Urban District until that joined the City of Leeds in 1974. Today it is in the Rothwell ward of Leeds City Council and the LS26 postcode district.
