Norland Town: what to know before moving day
This is where Norland's yeoman houses cluster. Lower Old Hall, dated 1634, is Grade II* listed, Fallingworth Hall has a porch dated 1642, and Norland Town House is a 16th-century timber-framed house later encased in stone and divided. Pickwood House, Heath Hall Farmhouse and Norland Moor Farmhouse are 17th-century listed buildings, and an 18th-century milestone stands by the churchyard wall of St Luke's. Most of these are stone with stone slate roofs and mullioned windows, so measure the front door and the turn of the stairs before moving large furniture.
Norland Working Men's Club, said to be one of the smallest in the country, is on the edge of the hamlet, and Norland Park was laid out in 1924 around the 1920 war memorial on the site of the old pinfold. Norland CE School and Shaw Lane Fields are close by.
How the van gets to Norland Town
Norland Town Road runs through the hamlet, with Moor End Lane, New Clough Road, Berry Moor Road, Stormer Hill Lane and Kitson Lane leading off. For Sowerby Bridge, London Road and Spark House Lane lead to Sowerby Croft Lane, then Boggart Lane and Norland Road go down to Station Road and the A58 in the town. Clough Road and Shaw Lane are the other roads out.
