Kinsley: what to know before moving day
On 15 August 1905, 25 families were evicted from their homes by police during a strike at Hemsworth Colliery and ended up camping at Outwood Hall farm in Outwood; the episode is remembered as the Kinsley evictions. Kinsley Greyhound Stadium is on Wakefield Road, as are the Royal British Legion club, The Kinsley Hotel, King's Meadow Academy and the Fitzwilliam and Kinsley Community Centre.
South of the stadium and Hoyle Mill Road is Hemsworth Water Park and Playworld, with a pedalo lake with sandy beaches, a quieter fishing lake, an adventure playground and a miniature railway; Vale Head Park beyond it has a nine-hole golf course. Housing near Wakefield Road includes Tombridge Crescent, Grace Drive, Redland Crescent, Oakdale Road and Elm Crescent, with King Street, New Street and Ford Street a little away.
How the van gets to Kinsley
Wakefield Road, the B6273, runs through Kinsley, linking it with Fitzwilliam and the A638 to the north and with Hemsworth to the south-east. The M62 is about 6 miles to the north and the M1 about 8 miles west. The van comes in by Wakefield and the A638, turning onto the B6273 at Foulby.
