Honley: what to know before moving day
The centre is a group of old streets round St Mary's church: Church Street, Westgate, Eastgate and Southgate, with Concord Street, Cross Street and High Street close by. Off them run a number of folds, such as Jessop Fold, Southgate Fold, Lower Fold and Brooke Fold. If your address is a fold, say how far the door is from where the van can stop, and the carry is priced in. St Mary's itself, built in 1843 by Robert Dennis Chantrell on the site of the 1759 church known as Old Peg, is Grade II listed, and the churchyard keeps what is left of the village stocks.
Around the old core, housing reaches out along St Mary's Road, Crown Street, Jaggar Lane, Well Hill, Town Head and River Park, with the library, the Co-op and the Southgate Theatre in the village. Honley Bridge crosses the River Holme, and the Crossley Mills industrial estate is on the edge of the village. Honley Show, the agricultural show, is held on the second Saturday in June.
How the van gets to Honley
Two main roads pass just outside the centre: the A6024 Woodhead Road, running up the valley from Huddersfield towards Holmfirth, and the A616 Huddersfield Road, heading on through Brockholes towards New Mill. From Bradford the van comes through Huddersfield and out on either, then turns off for the village centre.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 35 to 50 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Can I use Honley station on moving day if I have bags?
It is not easy. The single platform is above street level and reached only by stairs, with no step-free access, although trains run hourly to Huddersfield and to Sheffield by way of Barnsley. If you are travelling separately from the van, plan for the steps.
