Holme Wood: what to know before moving day
The estate was built in the 1950s and officially opened in 1957, on land between Dudley Hill and Ned Lane. It is managed by Incommunities and Bradford Council, and most of its buildings are low-rise. The two exceptions are the tall blocks of flats, Ogden House and Kelvin House, on Dane Court Road, so if you live in either, say which floor you are on when you book.
Many streets come in families that share a first name, which makes them easy to mix up: Muirhead Drive, Court and Fold; the Knutsford and Felcourt streets; Dorchester Crescent and Court; Farringdon Drive and Close. Holmewood Health Centre, St Christopher's Church, Knowleswood Primary School and Knowles Park are good landmarks. On the edge, Valley Natural Play Park follows Holme Beck, and Pit Hill Park borders the green belt at Tong.
How the van gets to Holme Wood
From the city, the A650 Wakefield Road leads to the Dudley Hill roundabout, and the estate is reached along Knowles Lane or Holmewood Road, which run out towards Dudley Hill. Broadstone Way crosses from Cutler Heights to the Tong Street side, and Launceston Drive and Mansel Mews are the other main roads mapped on the estate.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 10 to 25 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
