East Bowling: what to know before moving day
Bowling Park is the centre of this part of East Bowling: 50 acres, opened in 1880 and on the national register of historic parks at Grade II. Its main gate is on Bowling Hall Road at Lister Avenue, and the park is bounded by Burras Road, Parkside Road, Avenue Road, Bowling Park Drive and Bowling Memorial Cemetery. The cemetery, beside the ring road, has a disused Gothic Revival chapel of 1886 that is listed. Bradford Academy stands on Bowling Hall Road on the east side of the park.
Much of the older housing went in the clearances that followed the 1951 Bradford Development Plan. What remains is mostly late Victorian and Edwardian terraces from 1895 to 1914, concentrated between Wakefield Road and Bowling Hall Road, from Paley Road in the north to Lister Avenue in the south, with newer houses between Fenby Avenue and Wakefield Road. Nearer the ring road, Thurley Road, Onslow Crescent, Sangster Way and the housing at Goose Hill are among the residential streets.
How the van gets to East Bowling
The A6177 ring road runs along the south of East Bowling as Rooley Lane, a dual carriageway, meeting the A650 Wakefield Road at the elevated Dudley Hill roundabout. The end of the M606 at Staygate is about a mile to the south-west along the same ring road. Bowling Hall Road and Rook Lane are the main local roads mapped on this side.

Where does East Bowling end and West Bowling begin?
The old dividing line was the Bowling Beck, close to the railway, and locals still go by that. When Bowling ward was split in 1881, the official line in the south ran along Bolling Hall Road instead, so the two do not quite agree.
