Colton (Leeds): what to know before moving day
Colton is built mainly as cul-de-sacs linked by ginnels and back alleys, with detached, semi-detached and terraced houses and flats. The closes come off Colton Lane and Meynell Road in families of names: Burr Tree, Laurel Hill, Kirkfield, Penlands, Gypsy Wood and Chantry. At the centre the cricket club also has tennis courts, a bowling green and a football pitch, and Colton Methodist Church stands in the older part.
Old Colton Road, known locally as the Old Road, the Red Road or the Wide Path, is closed between the edge of Colton and Whitkirk and Meynell Road, so a sat-nav that tries to use it will not get a van through. Colton Primary School and the Colton Village Institute are on the estate, and the Sainsbury's at Colton Mill is close.
How the van gets to Colton (Leeds)
Colton is where the Leeds Outer Ring Road finishes, beside junction 46 of the M1 at Thorpe Park. From Bradford that means the M62 east to the M1 at Lofthouse, north to junction 46, then west along Selby Road to the Skyliner Roundabout, where Colton Lane turns south into the estate.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 35 to 45 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Can the van drive along Colton Road into Whitkirk?
Not all the way. Colton Road is closed from the edge of Colton and Whitkirk to Meynell Road, so the van comes in by Colton Lane from the Skyliner Roundabout. The open part of Colton Road leaves Selby Road on the Whitkirk side.
