Ambler Thorn: what to know before moving day
Union Croft Chapel, a sandstone chapel of 1842 with a symmetrical gabled front, extended at the rear in 1925, stands at the heart of Ambler Thorn and is Grade II listed. On the east side of Halifax Road, opposite number 70, a listed milestone with a moulded top is inscribed with the distances to Bradford and Halifax. The Omnibus pub is on the same stretch.
Queensbury Tunnel, 2,287 metres long and finished in 1878 for the Great Northern Railway, runs beneath this area between Holmfield and Queensbury, and its No. 2 and No. 3 shafts are marked on the map a short walk from Ambler Thorn. The line through it closed in 1956.
Off the main road are the Hainsworth Moor streets, Hainsworth Moor Drive, Crescent, Grove, View and Garth, with Shibden Head Primary Academy on Hainsworth Moor Grove, and streets such as Sunny View Terrace, Clarendon Place, Myrtle Grove, Ladysmith Road and Oxford Road. Moor Close Lane and Moor Close Road lead towards the Ford side.

Halifax Road, the A647, is the road through Ambler Thorn. Coming from Queensbury it runs as West End and Ford Hill before becoming Halifax Road, then carries on south-west to Catherine Slack.
