From the Speke retail parks to a Toxteth terrace: Liverpool furniture runs

Several of the city's furniture stores sit along the A561 in Speke and Garston, about seven miles from the centre, or on Edge Lane in the east. A big order is collected from the store once it is ready, with the order number in hand, and then driven across the city. A bed from Dreams on Edge Lane to Old Swan is a short hop; a dining set from Speke to Anfield crosses most of Liverpool and takes longer.

The drop decides the time on the doorstep. A wardrobe for a Kensington terrace may have to come apart before it turns on the stairs, while a Georgian Quarter flat can mean steps outside and three storeys inside.
