Lifts in the Baltic, steps in the Georgian Quarter: two kinds of Liverpool flat
In the centre and the Baltic Triangle, round Jamaica Street, Greenland Street and Kempston Street, flats are in newer blocks, many with a lift and a fob on the door. The lift sets the pace: a one-bedroom flat goes quickly if the sofa stands in the car, slowly if it has to come down the stairs. The multi-storey car parks nearby have 2.1m entrances, which a 2.5m van cannot pass, so the van loads from the street or a loading bay outside the block.
A flat in the Georgian Quarter is the opposite. Townhouses on Canning Street, Huskisson Street and Falkner Square are three storeys over a basement, with steps up to the front door and tall staircases inside, and a top-floor flat has no lift. Princes Avenue in Toxteth is similar, with grand Victorian houses split into flats. Furniture that will not turn on the landing is taken apart, and the carry up and down is counted in the quote.
Fobs, floors and loading bays: a Liverpool flat checklist
- Ask the managing agent whether moves are booked in advance and whether the lift can be held
- Measure the lift door and the depth of the car against the sofa before the day
- In a townhouse flat, count the floors and say if the stair turns, as that sets the carry time
- For a street with no loading space, Liverpool City Council can suspend parking bays for a removal
- Leave a fob or entry code with the driver so doors are not wedged open

Floors, lifts and the walk to the door: pricing a Liverpool flat
The floor, whether the lift takes the big pieces, the distance from the van to the entrance and the miles to the new flat decide the price, which is fixed before the day. See how we quote for the full breakdown.
Flat Removals in Liverpool: your questions
Can you move a one-bedroom flat in Liverpool city centre?
Yes. With a working lift and the van standing close to the entrance it is a short job; stairs or a long corridor add time, so send the floor and the access.
Can the van use the car park under my block?
Usually not. Most city centre car parks have entrances of about 2.1m and the van is about 2.5m tall, so it loads from the street or a bay outside.
Do I need to suspend a parking bay?
Only if there is nowhere legal for the van to stand. Liverpool City Council charges £30 a bay a day plus a £50 fee and needs ten working days' notice.
