The Interchange, one-way streets and lifts: an Altrincham flat move
The centre is a tangle of one-way and pedestrian streets. Stamford New Road and Regent Road run one way, George Street is pedestrianised and set with stone setts, and Greenwood Street by the market is partly closed to traffic. So the van comes round to the side of the block it can legally stop on, and the boxes are trolleyed from there. Stamford Quarter's parking is a multi-storey, which a 2.5m van never enters.
Inside the building, the lift sets the pace. A one-bed flat with a lift that takes a sofa on end is a short morning; a sofa that has to come down three flights takes longer, and that is counted in the price. In a converted building such as the Linotype offices, corridors and doorways can be narrower than in a new block, so measure the widest pieces. Tell us the floor, the lift and any rules the managing agent sets for moving days.
Fobs, lift slots and the managing agent: an Altrincham flat checklist
- Book the lift or a moving slot with the managing agent if the block asks for one
- Find the nearest door to the street: a bin store or rear entrance is often closer than the front
- Leave a fob or door code for the day so entrance doors are not propped open
- Measure the sofa and the lift car; if it will not stand in the lift it goes down the stairs
- Check whether the street outside is one way, so the van arrives on the right side

Floor, lift and the carry: what an Altrincham flat move costs
The floor, whether the lift takes the large pieces, the walk from a legal stop to the entrance and the distance to the new flat decide the figure, which is fixed before the day. See how we quote for the full breakdown.
Flat Removals in Altrincham: your questions
Can you move a one-bedroom flat near the Interchange in a morning?
Usually, if there is a working lift and the van can stop near the entrance. Stairs, a long corridor or a carry from a side street add time, so send the floor and the access.
Will the van fit in my building's car park?
Only if it is open-air with no barrier. The van is about 2.5m tall, so it does not go into underground or multi-storey parking and loads from the street instead.
How far ahead should I book an Altrincham flat move?
A week or two before a month end, as that is when tenancies change. A mid-month move has more choice of date, and short notice is possible when the diary allows.
