Works terraces, Georgian rows and Bowdon villas: three kinds of Altrincham move
A terrace on Place Road, Pollen Road or Bemrose Avenue is a compact load with stairs to climb. Some of the Place Road houses have three floors, so wardrobes and beds come apart on the top landing rather than being wrestled round the turn. Lawrence Road and Weldon Road run one way, so the van comes in from the right end and stops in the nearest legal gap, and the furniture goes along the pavement on the trolley.
A Bowdon or Hale house is a bigger day. The Victorian villas around Green Walk on the Bowdon ridge have more rooms and outbuildings, and a family house there can be more than one van load. That is answered from the photos before booking, not found out on the drive. Timperley houses off Park Road and Thorley Lane, mostly built from the 1930s onwards, sit in between, and where there is a garage it is often the slowest room to empty.
Before the van arrives: readying an Altrincham house
- On the Linotype Estate or by The Downs, ask neighbours to leave a car length outside the door if they can
- Photograph the cellar, loft and garage as well as the rooms, as those decide whether a Bowdon house is one load or two
- Bag the screws for each bed and wardrobe, label it and tape it to the frame
- Ask the estate agent when keys are released, so the van is not waiting outside a Timperley new home with a full load
- Anything you are not taking needs sorting first: Trafford Council collects bulky items from homes in blocks of five
Linotype Estate to Hale Barns: Altrincham houses by district
- Linotype Estate, Broadheathlate 19th-century works terraces, some three storeys, on one-way Lawrence Road and Weldon Road
- The Downs and Sandiway Roadlisted early 19th-century brick rows near the centre, where kerb space is shared
- Bowdonlarge Victorian houses on the ridge, with more rooms and outbuildings to clear
- Hale and Hale Barnsan affluent suburb south-east of the centre, with Hale Barns further east

Rooms, cellars and the walk to the door: an Altrincham removal price
The number of rooms, the cellar, loft and garage, the carry from the nearest legal stop on a narrow street, and the miles to the new house set the figure. Once agreed, that figure covers the drive over the Pennines as well and does not change on the day. See how we quote for the full breakdown.
House Removals in Altrincham: your questions
What day is cheapest to move house in Altrincham?
A mid-week day is the easiest to book, because Fridays, weekends and month ends are in demand with every mover. The price is fixed on the job itself, so the gain from a Tuesday or Wednesday is choice of date and a quieter road.
Can one van move a four-bedroom house in Bowdon or Hale?
Not always in one trip. A large house with a cellar and a full garage may need two loads, and the photos show that before you book, so the plan and the price cover both runs.
Do you dismantle beds and wardrobes?
Yes. Beds and flat-pack wardrobes are taken apart at the old house and put back together at the new one, at no extra charge.
What will a removal not move?
Gas and hard-wired appliances, dishwashers and cookers are not moved. Washing machines and standard fridge freezers are fine.
