South on the M6, west on the M56: long runs from Altrincham
For London the van takes the A556 to the M6 and then the M1, about 189 miles to the centre. Bristol is about 157 miles by the M6, M5 and M4, and Birmingham about 76. For Glasgow it heads north on the A56 to the M60 and M61, then the M6 and M74, about 219 miles. Leeds and the north-east are east over the Pennines on the M62, and Chester is about 31 miles west by the M56.
Remember the van has already driven 49 miles from Bradford before loading, so a London or Glasgow move is usually planned over two days, agreed in the quote. One long wheelbase Transit holds a flat, a smaller house or part of a bigger one; a large Bowdon or Hale house may need two runs, which the photos show. Strong, stackable boxes travel best over long distances.
Planning a long move out of Altrincham
- Find out from the agent at the far end when keys are handed over and where a 2.5m-tall van can stop
- Write the new room on each box, so unloading in a strange house is quick
- Switch the freezer off the day before to defrost, and drain the washer's hoses
- There is a seat in the cab for one passenger; the rest of the family drives or takes the train
- Mention anything longer than 3.4m or unusually heavy when you ask for a quote

Long Distance Removals in Altrincham: your questions
Can I ride in the van from Altrincham to my new home?
One passenger can, in the cab beside the driver. Everyone else needs their own way there, and Altrincham Interchange has trains and trams to Manchester for onward connections.
Will my furniture be swapped onto a bigger lorry?
No. It is loaded in Altrincham and unloaded at the new address from the same Transit, driven by the same person, with no warehouse stop on the way.
How far ahead should I book a move from Altrincham to London?
Two weeks or more gives the best choice, as a London run takes at least a whole day of the diary. Ask sooner if your date is a Friday or a month end, and a closer date can work when the diary allows.
