An hour or more over the M62 first: timing an urgent Altrincham job
The van starts in Bradford, so an Altrincham collection has 49 miles of the M62 and M60 in front of it, 65 to 80 minutes, before anything is picked up. That is why the first call matters: the van can only go when the diary is free. Give the full postcode, as Broadheath, Hale Barns and Timperley each come off the A56 or A560 at a different point.
After pick-up, your item is the only thing aboard and the van heads directly to the drop address. From Altrincham the A56 runs north into Manchester, about 9 miles, the A556 and M56 lead west to Chester and Liverpool, and the M60 and M62 go east to Leeds. Manchester Airport is about 5 miles away by the A560, for a parcel to a business on the airport side. Lengths up to 3.4m lie flat on the floor.
What to have ready when you ring about an Altrincham run
- The pick-up and drop postcodes, and the latest time it can arrive
- Names and phone numbers at both ends, so the handover is not held up
- Rough dimensions and weight, or a picture, so it travels secure
- For a unit off Atlantic Street, the business name and unit number, as several estates sit together
- Opening hours at the drop, in case reception shuts at lunchtime

Same-Day Courier in Altrincham: your questions
Can you get something from Altrincham to Manchester today?
If the diary has room, yes. Give the pick-up and drop postcodes and the deadline on the call, and a free van crosses the Pennines, collects in WA14 or WA15 and runs it up the A56.
How soon can the van reach Altrincham?
Count on 65 to 80 minutes from Bradford, 49 miles by the M62 and M60, before it pulls up for the collection, and longer if the motorway is slow.
Is there anything you will not carry?
Hazardous goods, live animals and chilled or frozen items stay off the van. A sealed envelope, a boxed part or a pipe up to 3.4m long are all fine.
