Wibsey Bank: what to know before moving day
The climb passes one Grade II listed row after another. On Wibsey Bank itself, numbers 18 to 26 are a row of sandstone cottages dated 1824, and 76 to 82 are two pairs stepped up the hill, with number 84 beside them. Holroyd Hill has a pair of houses from 1783 and several rows from about 1800 to 1830, and White Lane has two rows from the 1820s, the northern one also stepped up the slope, with White Lane Top (1818) at its head. Henderson Place, a row of four from 1822, is close by.
Stepped rows like these can mean steps to the front door and a slope between the van and the house, so tell the driver about both. The former Hare and Hounds, a pub from about 1840 and now listed, is a clear landmark on the bank. Truncliffe, Spiers Garth and Hall Street are among the smaller streets around it.
How the van gets to Wibsey Bank
The B6380 is the main road up: Odsal Road leaves the A6036 at Odsal Top and becomes Holroyd Hill as it climbs into Wibsey. The lower end of the bank is near the A641 Manchester Road at Bankfoot, and the Morrisons on Mayo Avenue is a short distance away on the A6177 ring road.
