Bankfoot: what to know before moving day
Bankfoot has been a meeting of roads for a long time. The turnpike opened in 1734 from Calverley Moor ran along Cutler Heights Lane and Rooley Lane and ended here. Two rows of early 19th-century sandstone houses on the residential end of Rooley Lane, numbers 3 to 13 and 15 to 23, are Grade II listed and have basements under two storeys, so say if anything is coming up from a basement.
St Matthew's Church, built in 1848 to 1849 with a small spire on its bellcote, is the easiest landmark to give, with St Matthew's Road close by. Wibsey Bank Foot Post Office, Bankfoot Primary School and the Emsley Memorial Recreation Ground also help the driver, and the house at 12 Wibsey Bank, from the 1840s, is listed too. Dovesdale Road, Deneside Terrace and Runswick Street are among the residential streets off Manchester Road.
How the van gets to Bankfoot
The A641 Manchester Road runs through Bankfoot from the city centre towards Odsal. At Bankfoot it is crossed by the A6177 ring road, coming north from the M606 at Staygate as Mayo Avenue and carrying on as Smiddles Lane. That crossing was a roundabout until 2004, when it was replaced by a large junction controlled by traffic lights.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 10 to 20 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
