Whitcliffe: what to know before moving day
Whitcliffe Mount School opened in 1908 as Cleckheaton Secondary School on Brooke Street and moved here in 1910; it became a grammar school after 1944, a comprehensive in 1973 and an academy in the SHARE Multi Academy Trust in 2022. A hoard of Roman coins was once found near the school site. Whitechapel Church, a short walk away, dates from 1820 on a site used for worship since Norman times, and its font is no later than 1120.
The housing is largely the Turnsteads streets, Turnsteads Avenue, Crescent, Close, Drive and Mount, with Church View, Greenway View, Park View, Kenmore Crescent, South Parade and Westburn Place, and courts such as Carder Court and Honeybee Court. West End Park, Whitechapel Church of England Primary School and Turnsteads Community Centre are nearby.
How the van gets to Whitcliffe
Turnsteads Avenue and Whitcliffe Road carry the B6120 through Whitcliffe, linking with Whitechapel Road. The M62 passes about 250 metres away and the M606 about 330 metres away, and the two meet at junction 26, Chain Bar, on the edge of Cleckheaton, so from Bradford the van leaves the motorway network only a few streets from the door.
