Tingley: what to know before moving day
Much of Tingley is recent. The coal and woollen work that once employed people here has gone, and the village has had a lot of new housing over the last twenty-five years or so. Around the point marked Tingley on the map, homes sit on estate roads such as Poppleton Way, Poppleton Rise and Broadcroft Drive. When the M62 was built, a large part of the old village was demolished to make room for the interchange.
Around Blackgates, the Tingley Community Centre and library share a site on Smithy Lane with Blackgates Primary Academy, which makes a clear point to describe to a driver. Tingley Methodist Church is on Westerton Road next to Westerton Academy, and Hope Church meets on Heatherdale Road. For big shopping trips people use the White Rose Centre, a few minutes away in Beeston.
How the van gets to Tingley
Tingley roundabout is the key junction: from Bradford the van can use the M606 and then the M62 east from junction 26 to reach it, or come along the A650 Bradford Road through Morley. From the roundabout, Bradford Road continues east through Tingley towards East Ardsley, and the A653 Dewsbury Road runs north to Leeds and south towards Dewsbury. From Bradford to Smithy Lane is roughly 20 to 35 minutes by our estimate.
