East Ardsley: what to know before moving day
The village grew on farming, textiles, the railway and coal. Its pit closed in 1968, and the headquarters of Sharp Business Systems now stands on the old pit head. Amblers Mill, at the crossroads of the A650 Bradford Road, Westerton Road and Common Lane, no longer makes cloth and houses Country Baskets. The Bay Horse, a long-standing pub, is on Bradford Road.
Newer homes sit on former railway land. The sidings began to be redeveloped for housing in 2007, and land next to the old Ardsley station site now has 88 houses and apartments by Miller Homes; trains still pass on the Wakefield Line, but the station closed in 1964. In the older part of the village, Main Street has the community centre and a convenience shop, and St Michael's Church is on Church Lane. Streets such as Brayshaw Road, Woodlands Drive and Cherry Tree Court make up much of the housing nearby.
How the van gets to East Ardsley
The A650 Bradford Road runs through East Ardsley between Tingley and Wakefield, so from Bradford the van can follow the A650 all the way through Morley and Tingley, or take the M606 and the M62 to Tingley roundabout and turn east.
