Shadwell Lane is the main road, and the small shopping area at Slaid Hill Court on it, with a Sainsbury's Local and a newsagent, is the easiest landmark. More shops line Wike Ridge Lane, and The Dexter pub is on Wigton Lane nearby. The housing is mostly on estate roads off these: the Shadwell Park streets (Avenue, Drive, Gardens and Grove), the Middlethorne roads, Longwood Crescent and Overdale Avenue.
The estate south of Shadwell Lane and east of Roundhay Park Lane is inside Shadwell parish. Shadwell Grange, a Grade II listed house and farm, stands in Slaid Hill with a view over the Moortown Ring Road, and Brandon Golf Course is off Holywell Lane on the Shadwell side.
