Scout Hill: what to know before moving day
Two families of street names make up much of Scout Hill: the Ravens roads (Ravens Crescent, Walk, Grove and Avenue, and Ravens Lodge Terrace) and the Thornville roads (Thornville Mount, Place, Walk, Street and Terrace). Add Broad Street, Stoney Bank Street, Craven Road, Mavis Street and Scout Hill Road itself, and it is worth writing the full name when you book, since several of these differ by one word.
Dewsbury Community Fire Station on Huddersfield Road is the easiest landmark to give. Dewsbury Cemetery is close by; its gate piers and two chapels date from 1859 and are listed. Down the hill, the railway crosses the River Calder on an 1847 bridge, and the Calder Valley and Spen Valley greenways run along the valley floor. Crow Nest Park is a short walk away.
How the van gets to Scout Hill
Huddersfield Road, the A644, is the main road through Scout Hill. It meets the M62 at junction 25, so from Bradford the van can take the M606 to the M62 and come off there. From the Dewsbury side, the B6117 runs nearby as Fall Lane, Temple Road and Cemetery Road, and Ravenshouse Road links across the district.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 25 to 40 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
