Scarlet Heights: what to know before moving day
An early 19th-century milestone stands on the north side of the road at Scarlet Heights, a square stone with a domed top giving the distances to Bradford and Halifax, and it is Grade II listed. Park House, a large stone house of 1888 with gabled outer bays and a two-storey canted bay window, is listed too, and so are Fiddler's Hill Farmhouse and its barn a little further off.
Off the main road are Bright Street, Cobden Street, Gladstone Street and Park Lane, and a group of closes named Naseby Rise, Edgehill Close, Marston Close, Cropredy Close, Cheriton Drive, Langport Close and Adwalton Grove. Littlemoor Park is right beside them. Victoria Hall, built in 1887 to 1891 with swimming baths and a library, is a short walk towards the village.
How the van gets to Scarlet Heights
The A647 carries several names here, among them Highgate Road, Scarlet Heights, Calder Banks and Sandbeds, and it has a 30 mph limit on this stretch. Park Lane leaves it at Scarlet Heights, and Brighouse Road, the A644, is close by at the village end. For a house on the main road, a side street is usually the better place to load, so say which one is nearest.
