Old Dolphin: what to know before moving day
The Old Dolphin itself dates from the mid 18th century, was enlarged in about 1790 and is Grade II listed. Around it are listed rows of sandstone cottages from about 1800 to 1830: New House Lane from number 2 to number 38 in several groups, 1 to 19 Ackroyd Square, the single-storey row at 1 to 11 Stogden Hill, and runs of cottages on Highgate Road. Most have mullioned windows and doorways with squared jambs.
The rows differ inside. At 6, 8 and 10 New House Lane steps lead up to the doors over basements, while 24 to 38 are single-storey, so say which kind you are in when you ask for a price. Beyond the old rows are Stocksfield View, Woodlands Avenue and Woodlands Road, Stocks Lane Primary School, Asa Briggs Park with its bowls club, and the New House Lane allotments. Pollit Farmhouse and Jockey Hall Farmhouse, both listed with their barns, are a little further out.
How the van gets to Old Dolphin
Highgate Road, the A647, is the through road, and New House Lane leaves it into the hamlet, with Stocks Lane and Baldwin Lane as the other side roads. Towards Bradford the same A647 changes its name to Great Horton Road. Old Dolphin is roughly 15 to 25 minutes from Bradford city centre; say whether the house faces Highgate Road or one of the lanes.
