Rawfolds: what to know before moving day
In 1812 about two hundred armed weavers, croppers and other workers attacked Rawfolds Mill, run by William Cartwright, to destroy its cropping frames, and two Luddites were killed. The unrest fed into Charlotte Brontë's Shirley. The map still remembers it: Cartwright Street, Luddite Way Business Park and Weavers Croft are all within about 200 metres of each other.
Houses are on streets such as Green Bank, New Street, Lions Way, Lions Drive, Thorntonville and Bridon Way, with numbered industrial units along Cartwright Street and Rawfolds Way and a Screwfix nearby. Royds Park and its bowling green, the Primrose Lane Playing Fields and the Jo Cox Community Wood are the green spaces, and Liversedge FC's ground is a short walk away. If you are collecting from one of the numbered business units, give the unit number as well as the street.
How the van gets to Rawfolds
Bradford Road, the A638, passes about 200 metres away and is the way in from Chain Bar, where the M62 and M606 meet. The Spen Valley Greenway, the old railway between Low Moor and Dewsbury turned into a path for walkers and cyclists, runs along the valley here, so the van keeps to the roads: Cartwright Street, Rawfolds Way and Primrose Lane.
