Menston: what to know before moving day
Main Street is the old centre, with the Malt Shovel, the Menston Arms, the Fairfax Club, the library and the community centre along it. Several 18th-century stone houses on Main Street are listed, and Fairfax Hall, part of Menston Old Hall, is a 17th-century house listed at Grade II*. In houses of that age, check stair turns and door widths before booking the larger pieces.
The village keeps growing. New streets are going up off Derry Hill, where OpenStreetMap marks a Yorkshire Homes site, and to the south the former High Royds Hospital, opened in 1888 as the West Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum, has been converted into homes. That site, like St Mary's Menston Catholic Academy, is in the small part of Menston that falls within the City of Leeds.
St John the Divine is the Anglican parish church. Menston Primary School is on St Peter's Way, and Menston station is reached along Station Road, which leaves the A65.
How the van gets to Menston
The A65 runs along the eastern side of the village between Guiseley and Burley, and Station Road leaves it for Cleasby Road and Main Street. The A6038 Otley Road joins the A65 at Menston roundabout, so the van can come in from either road. On the western side, Derry Hill links Main Street with Bingley Road.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 20 to 35 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Most of Menston, including the civil parish, is in Bradford's Wharfedale ward. A small area south of the village, including the High Royds housing and St Mary's Menston, is in the Guiseley and Rawdon ward of Leeds. Your council tax bill will say which.
Is there a direct train from Menston to Bradford?
Yes. Menston station is on the Wharfedale line, with trains to Bradford Forster Square hourly on weekday and Saturday daytimes, more at peak times, plus Leeds and Ilkley. Lifts to both platforms opened in March 2026.
