East Moor: what to know before moving day
Eastmoor once had soapworks and brickyards, and the town's union workhouse was built on Park Lodge Lane in 1853. Pinders Primary School began as Eastmoor School and is the only school opened under the Education Act 1870 that is still open. The estate streets around Queen Elizabeth Road share their names with places in the Dales and around Harrogate: Kilnsey Road, Arncliffe Road, Conistone Crescent, Malham Road, Litton Croft, Hebden Road, Starbeck Road and Pannal Avenue, so always give the WF1 postcode with the street.
Pinderfields Hospital, the city's acute hospital, rebuilt and completed in 2010, is right beside the estate. Nearby, the old West Riding asylum on Aberford Road, later Stanley Royd Hospital, closed in 1995 and has been converted to homes as Parklands Manor. Queen Elizabeth Park, King George's Field, Eastmoor Health Centre and the Church of St Andrew and St Mary with St Swithun are useful landmarks on the estate.
How the van gets to East Moor
The A642 runs past East Moor as Aberford Road and Stanley Road, and Park Lodge Lane, Windhill Road and Eastmoor Road lead into the estate. From Bradford the van can use the A650 into Wakefield, or the M62 east to junction 30 and the A642 south through Stanley.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 30 to 45 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
