Heath: what to know before moving day
The big houses round the edge of the green were built for wealthy merchants and business owners, and several are listed. Heath Hall, built around 1709 for the wool trader John Smyth and altered by John Carr, is Grade I; the Dower House of about 1740 is Grade II*. The whole parish has 57 listed buildings, including former almshouses, schools, a water tower and a pub. Heath Common became a registered common in the late 19th century, and Wakefield Trinity first played rugby on it.
The lanes on the map include Almshouse Lane, Old Hall Courtyard, Manor House Lane and Beech Lawn Lane, with Kirkthorpe Lane leading out to the north. The Kings Arms is the pub and the Heath Tea Rooms are nearby. How the van gets to Heath
Heath sits between two main roads out of Wakefield. The A638 Doncaster Road passes the south-west side of the parish and Black Road, the A655, crosses it towards Normanton. Neil Fox Way (A6194), opened in 2017, links the A638 near Heath Common north to Stanley. From Bradford the van comes into Wakefield by the A650 or the M1, then out along the A638.

Because the postcode is Wakefield, WF1, while the ward used by Wakefield Council is Normanton. Heath itself is in neither town: it sits in the civil parish of Warmfield cum Heath, which has its own parish council.
