Agbrigg: what to know before moving day
Much of Agbrigg was once Sandal Common, part of the parish of Sandal Magna. The common was built on by the 18th century and the suburb grew mainly in the Victorian era, which is why terraced housing makes up most of it, with some newer houses on former fields. Bowman Street, Gordon Street, Lord Street, Montague Street, Westerman Street, Grosvenor Street and St Catherine Street are among them, and several have a back street behind them, such as Back Bowman Street and Back Montague Street. Say which door the van should load from.
Oakenshaw Beck runs beside the eastern end of Agbrigg Road and then along Montague Street and Briary Close; after the 2007 flooding the Environment Agency and the council began flood defence work there. The Agbrigg and Belle Vue Community Centre is on Montague Street, Sandal Library is off Sparable Lane, and Sandal Magna Community Academy, rebuilt in 2010, is on Belle Vue Road. Agbrigg Park has a play area and goalposts.
How the van gets to Agbrigg
Agbrigg Road, the B6389, links Barnsley Road (A61) with Doncaster Road (A638), so the van can come in from either end. From Bradford, cross into south Wakefield by the A650 or the M1, then pick up the A61 or the A638. Sandal and Agbrigg station is on the Wakefield Line, with trains to Wakefield Westgate and Leeds.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 35 to 50 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Agbrigg: questions before you book
Why is the station called Sandal and Agbrigg?
It opened in 1866 as Sandal, closed to passengers in 1957 and reopened in 1987 under its present name, since it serves both suburbs. It is useful for anyone moving here and commuting to Leeds.
Is Agbrigg a separate village?
Not now. It was absorbed into Wakefield at the start of the 20th century and is an unparished part of the city, so Wakefield Council handles bins and council tax. The name once covered a whole wapentake.
