Cross Green: what to know before moving day
The homes, about 450 of them, are mostly traditional terraced and back-to-back houses on Cross Green Lane and the streets north of it, among them the St Hilda's and Copperfield streets. St Hilda's Church, a red brick building of 1881 by J. T. Micklethwaite, and its vicarage are both Grade II listed. Leeds GATE, the Gypsy and Traveller Exchange, is based here too.
South of Pontefract Lane the land is given over to work: Cross Green Industrial Park, Thornes Farm Business Park and the units along Knowsthorpe Road and Newmarket Lane, with the Neville Hill railway sidings close by. The arched timber building north of Pontefract Lane, on the site of the old wholesale markets, is the Leeds Recycling and Energy Recovery Facility, opened in 2016. How the van gets to Cross Green
Pontefract Lane is the road that matters. One way from Bradford is the M62 and M621 into Leeds, then the A61 on South Accommodation Road, where the A63 begins and heads east as Pontefract Lane past the Knowsthorpe Gate roundabout. The A647 through Armley and the Inner Ring Road reach the A61 from the north instead. Cross Green Lane leads into the residential streets.
