South to London or north to Glasgow on the M6 from Preston
Heading south, the van picks up the M6 for Birmingham, about 108 miles away, and for London carries on down the M1, about 220 miles to the centre. Heading north, it stays on the M6 past Lancaster and Carlisle and follows the A74(M) and M74 to Glasgow, about 184 miles. Liverpool is closer at about 37 miles by the M6 and M58. A move east into Yorkshire runs back over the Pennines on the M65, M61 and M62.
A run to London or Glasgow takes one or two days, settled at the quote. One long Transit takes a flat, a small house or a single room comfortably; whether a three-bed Fulwood semi fits in one go is a question for the photos. Use sturdy boxes of similar sizes so the load stacks tight, and keep documents, keys and medicines with you in the car.
Keys, parking and labels: before a long move from Preston
- Find out from the new agent or landlord where a long van can stop and what time keys are ready
- On a cobbled Deepdale or Maudland row, a word with the neighbours about leaving a gap by your door helps the loading
- Label every box with the room it is going to at the new address
- Switch off and defrost the freezer the day before, and drain the washing machine
- The cab has one passenger seat; anyone else follows by car or train

Can I ride with my things from Preston?
Yes, there is room for one passenger in the cab. Others in your household travel separately and meet the van at the new house.

No. It is loaded once in Preston and unloaded once at the destination, by the same driver from the same van.
How far ahead should I book a move from Preston to London or Scotland?
Give a week or more if you can, since a long run takes the whole day. Shorter notice can work when the diary allows; send the two addresses and your possible dates.
