Swain Green: what to know before moving day
Sticker Lane is the spine. It carries the A6177, the road number of Bradford's ring road, and the Swain Green Tavern, Sticker Lane Post Office and Laisterdyke Working Men's Club all stand on it. Nominatim lists Swain Green as part of Laisterdyke, and the Laisterdyke Wikipedia article spells the local pub The Swaine Green, so you will see both spellings.
Off the main road the housing runs along short streets such as Furnace Inn Street, Planetrees Road, Morton Road and Fearnville Drive, where Meadow Bank Community School is. St Mary's Church on Parsonage Road lies a few hundred metres to the south-east. Between the houses and the railway there is a lot of commercial land: Wellington Business Park and Hartley Business Park are both close by.
The Leeds and Bradford railway line passes to the north, with Laisterdyke West junction on the map, but there is no station here; Laisterdyke station closed to passengers in 1966.
How the van gets to Swain Green
The van comes in on Sticker Lane (A6177), which joins New Lane and the A6177 section named Laisterdyke to the north. Bowling Back Lane leaves Sticker Lane at Swain Green and heads west, with Furnace Inn Street, Planetrees Road and Chapman Street coming off it. Is there a railway station at Swain Green?
No. The Leeds and Bradford line runs past, but the nearest stop at Laisterdyke closed to passengers in 1966. Moves here are by road, along Sticker Lane.
