Pollard Park: what to know before moving day
The estate lies just off Barkerend Road, with New Otley Road, the A658, to the west. Its streets are short and close together: Harewood Street, Hendford Drive, Butler Street East, Binnie Street, Azealea Court, Downing Close, Pool Court and Shakespeare Close are all within a couple of hundred metres of each other. With courts and closes like these, a quick photo of the frontage helps us judge where a long wheelbase van can stop.
Barkerend Primary Leadership Academy is on Hendford Drive; the school dates from 1873 and its original building is Grade II listed, with a newer block added for extra pupils. Carlton Bolling, an 11 to 16 secondary school on Undercliffe Lane, lies to the north. The name was also used by Pollard Park Middle School, which once occupied the former Hanson Grammar School buildings on Byron Street.
For green space, Seymour Park lies a few hundred metres to the south and the Harewood Street Allotments to the south-east, and Barkerend Road Post Office is a short walk along the main road.
How the van gets to Pollard Park
Barkerend Road, the B6381, is the way in: both Harewood Street and Hendford Drive join it, and Butler Street East and Azealea Court lead off Hendford Drive. New Otley Road, the A658, passes about 150 metres to the west and suits a van coming from the Shipley side. From the city centre, the van comes up Church Bank and along Barkerend Road.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 5 to 20 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
